Online House Hunting
In today’s digital age, there’s often little need to flip through page after page of real estate listings in a book or newspaper. If you’re looking for a new home – or are just curious about the housing options in your area – look no further than your computer.
Visit a website of real estate listings such as realtor.com or zillow.com. These sites allow you to enter search criteria including price, location and specific home features. Online listings are constantly updated and you’ll find other perks like additional photos and more detailed descriptions. You can also search for homes through the websites of local real estate companies – look for “For Sale” signs in your target areas, which often have web addresses listed on them.
Utilize online mapping technology such as Mapquest or Google Maps to locate the properties you’re interested in. You can determine how close the property is to a school or highway, and you may even be able to zoom in to a street view of the home and neighborhood to get a better feel for the area.
Research the Property
Many county auditors’ records are now available online and can give you access to records of sales, property values and other information about a home when you enter the address. Not sure where to look? Search for “(your county) auditor property record search” in your favorite search engine.
Step Into the Real World
Once you’ve found a home you think has potential, choose an agent from Wright-Patt’s network of “Approved Realtors” to help you in your search or help sell your current one and get money back equivalent to 20%* of their sales commission. It’s a benefit we offer to our members. While online tools can help you tailor your home search, they won’t give you the entire picture. Once you’ve found the perfect home you can explore your mortgage options and apply online with WPCU. You’ll also find helpful calculators and tools to help make your dream home a reality on our resources page.
*Agent must be selected through Wright-Patt Credit Union or CU Realty. Rebate provided by CU Realty Services, Inc. WPCU is in partnership with CU Realty Services, Inc. and CU Realty of Ohio, LLC. Some restrictions apply. Click Here for more details.
